If necessary, these discussions can be arranged after-hours for your convenience. It is not unusual for Dr. Strauss to collect payment and schedule your appointments! - Minimizing unnecessary office visits
Dr. Strauss prefers minimizing office visits and associated fees by consulting over the phone whenever possible. - Extensive experience and background
Dr. Strauss has been referred to as a pioneer in dental sleep medicine. He began providing Oral appliance Therapy in 1988, not out of personal issues in this area, but out of a concern for a dental patient's coping with her husband's snoring. He brings that dedication to you and includes his extensive background in total patient oral rehabilitation, reconstructive and restorative dentistry, and an emphasis on prevention. - Higher success rate
One appliance does not fit all. To date, there has been no research to match patient characteristics to the most suitable type (TRD or MRD) and specific design oral appliance.
Everyone is unique in the structure and mobility of their teeth, jaws and throat. The choice of the inappropriate appliance can result in an ineffective resolution of sleep apnea symptoms. It can also result in ineffective function, fit and detrimental side effects. All of this can be avoided with the appropriate match of the appliance to the patient.
Clinical testing is required to narrow down the selection of first "type" and then "design" appliance and this process is referred to as "Trial Procedures". This trial period testing the two (TRD and MRD) types of "trial" appliances along with variations of them is critical. Dr. Strauss works with each patient until the most suitable treatment appliance is found, and even after this he may customize its design and manner of use.
Dr. Strauss has used this trial procedure approach for over one and one half decades. He finds that skipping the trial procedure is like playing roulette. - Dr. Strauss works closely with your sleep disorders physician
Dr. Strauss works with your sleep physician and you in coordinating your initial and follow-up care. He has been working with most sleep disorders physicians in the Washington metropolitan area and suburbs for well over one and one half decades.
